Spalding - Return to the Simpler Things Spalding is back and in full swing. The scholars have picked up where they left off beautifully. There is an amazing comfort to returning to the routine that is familiar. Please remember to have your scholars study their phonograms on a constant daily basis. History - Constitutional Convention As we transition into our study of the Constitution and the formation of our government as we know it, scholars will view the initial ideas that started the United States government which was the the Articles of Confederation. Math - Area and Perimeter Scholars will explore the idea of how to organized gathered data into either line-plots or bar graphs. They will be tested on this information concerning data presentation this Friday. Literature - The Princess and the Goblin In Literature,we continue reading The Princess and the Goblin. We will return our minds to the journey of Curdie into the depths of the goblin’s lair. Language Arts - essay on magnetism In language arts this week, Scholars will write an essay informing their readers about the nature of magnetism. There is a beauty that comes from scholars interacting with well written literature. The wonder that is engaged when the children invest their hearts and mind in the lives of the well penned characters on the page. This is an example of the emotional connection that I have witnessed our scholars experience as we travel through The Princess and the Goblin. Picture Source This week...Spalding - Like Riding a Bike Last week dipped our toe back into the Spalding pool. We warmed up our fingers, refreshed ourselves on phonograms, and utilized the power of the syllable. This week we will be returning to our old routines of Spalding homework four-days a week and a Spelling Test on Friday. History - British Surrender This week we complete our exploration of the American Revolution. The scholars will have a study guide to help them through their notes in order to prepare for their test on Thursday. Friday we will begin to learn about the importance of a strong central government that is still controlled by the people. Our focus: The Constitution of the United States. Math - Area and Perimeter Exploring more of the wonderful world of Geometry your scholar will attempt to understand how to discover the area and perimeter of a given shape. This is genuinely an exploration of math. We will get to see the scholars discuss, recall, and imagine formulas and equations to accomplish that task before them. Literature - The Princess and the Goblin In Literature,we continue reading The Princess and the Goblin. We will return our minds to the mystery of the Princess’s Gandmother and her great gifts upon Irene. It is so exciting to see your child connect the dots between their world and the world that could have been. This Week...Spalding - A Victorious Return We are returning to our studies in Spalding starting this week. We will be gently easing our scholars back into the world of Spalding this week by classwork only. We will resume Spalding homework next week. History - Condition of the Human Spirit This week near closer to the end of our study of the American Revolution. We will be learning the value of success in battle in reference to the human condition. The start of the war was difficult for the Americans but as they gathered more and more minor victories they were able to accomplish greater things. Science - Final Exam Now that the AIMS test is past, we will be focusing more on history. We will wrap up this year’s science with a final on Friday that will cover much of what we have been going over the past few weeks. Math - It’s the same on the Left as the Right As we travel farther down the path of lines and shapes; our scholars will begin to understand the concept of symmetry in Geometry. They will also work through a Review for their Unit 8 Test on Friday. Literature - The Princess and the Goblin In Literature,we continue reading The Princess and the Goblin. We will explore what happens to Curdie as he ventures deep into the realm of the goblins. Lyceum - AzMerit Math Review As we finally approach the date for our AzMerit for Math we will take time on Monday and Tuesday to review previous practice math tests to help support our scholars the best that we can. Language Arts - AzMerit Reading Review In language arts this week, Scholars will focus on the Declaration of Independence in a few intense close reads designed to enlighten and deepen the scholars grasp of the enormity and grandeur of this historic document. Our tests begin Tuesday and will be completed by next Thursday. Thankfully we will not be doing this every day until next Thursday. Picture Source This Week...History - Preparing for War We are very excited to get back to our History Curriculum. We return to the Second Continental Congress petitioning the King all while creating their own Continental Army. Scholars will also understand the importance of the pamphlet written by Thomas Paine known as “Common Sense” in conjunction with the creation of the Declaration of Independence. Science - AIMS This week we will be taking the AIMS science test! We have been working hard up to this point! Your students will take a practice test on Monday and the AIMS exam on Wednesday. Math - What’s in a line? We are quickly learning so many different things about lines and shapes this week. Scholars already learned the basic concept of what constitutes perpendicular lines last week. This week we travel through parallel lines and learn about how those lines begin to create shapes. Literature - The Princess and the Goblin In Literature,we continue reading The Princess and the Goblin. We will explore what happens to Curdie and the Realm of the Miners. Lyceum - The Beauty of the Fraction This week in Lyceum will continue reviewing multiplying and dividing mixed numbers. Scholars will still benefit by their daily review of their math facts in all mathematical facts. Help your scholars by having them review their math fact flash cards. Language Arts - AzMerit Writing Practice Test In language arts this week, Scholars will have their AzMerit Writing test. Please make sure that scholars receive a good night's rest and bring headphones/earbuds to school. Not only are they learning about the basics of character, plot, and setting; but they are also exploring figurative language, nuance, and meaning. It is fun to see scholars discover meaning in hidden words. I thoroughly enjoy watching their eyes light-up when a new concept comes into focus in their mind's eye. What I adore the most is seeing the scholars search for Truth and even when they don't find it I can see the joy in their faces when the attempt and do not succeed. Math - What is Right? Measuring angles. We will continue our journey as we begin comparing angles. We will have a quiz on Thursday, April 4th. Scholars will explore points, lines, and angles this week. It would still be very helpful for you child to focus on all math facts. Literature - The Princess and the Goblin In Literature, on Tuesday we continue reading The Princess and the Goblin. We will continue our journey into George MacDonald’s wonderful world. We will be following her as discusses her recent adventures in the distant top of the tower. Poetry Poetry will continue with a new poem being introduced and discussed on wednesday, we will read and discuss the general themes and concepts of poetry. We will not be memorizing these poems in order to expose the scholars to as many different varieties of poetry in this 4th quarter.
